Karen is currently in a full time Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) position at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Alberta, Alberta. In this position she provides recommendations and education to patients and staff for the management of wounds, edema and ostomy. Karen also co-chairs the Alberta Provincial Wound Care Guides Revisions. Karen is a board member for the national Wound Care Alliance group. Prior to her current position Karen was in an CNS -ET position, position in the Home Living Program – Home Care in Edmonton, Alberta.
Before becoming an Enterostomal Therapy consultant Karen had seven years’ experience working as a registered nurse in community care in Edmonton and four years as a palliative nurse at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She has also been a CPR instructor since 2006. Karen received her degree in nursing from the University of Alberta. After finding a passion for wound care she completed the ET program with the Canadian Association of Enterostomal Therapy program. She is now a certified NSWOC – WOCC(C). Karen completed her Masters of Clinical Science – Wound Healing program at the University of Western Ontario. Karen was the NSWOCC Regional Director for Prairies/NWT and Nunavut for two terms (four years). She is currently in the Core program leader role in Research and Practice for the NSWOCC association.
