This session will review the prevalence, etiology/pathophysiology, and clinical characteristics of Venous Leg Ulcers. We will discuss traditional treatment modalities and the challenges related to VLUs. We will demonstrate how the geko™ wound therapy device can be applied as an adjunctive therapy in treating VLUs.

Cathy Burrows, RN, BScN, MScCH (Wound Prevention and Care)

Cathy has a broad range of clinical backgrounds with over twenty years focused on wound care. In 1999 she developed and coordinated the Leg Ulcer Clinic at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, NS. Cathy has been an active member of Wounds Canada since 1999 and has chaired numerous committees and was president from 2007-2009. In 2007, she was the recipient of the Excellence in Nursing Award College of Registered Nurses of NS. In 2008, she completed the Masters of Science in Community Health (Wound Prevention & Care) at the University of Toronto. Cathy has authored and co-authored numerous articles and book chapters on wound care. Cathy is the Clinical Advisor to Wound Care Canada since 2011 and is presently co-lead with the Best Practice Recommendations update and co-lead for the Wounds Canada Leadership Program. Cathy is a clinical/educational consultant for Perfuse Medtec Inc.
