Objectives:
- Identify common Venous Leg Ulcer (VLU) management guidelines’ recommendations including: – Assessment parameters – Optimized wound care principles – Application of therapeutic compression
- Articulate the effects of compression therapy on venous return
- Describe the benefits that inelastic bandages provide for edema management
- Identify solutions for venous leg ulcer management
Presenter Bart Maene, TVN, BSc
Bart Maene holds a bachelor in science and is a registered nurse in Belgium. He has a post bachelor degree in emergency and intensive care with several years of experience in this setting. A second post – bachelor degree was achieved in wound and tissue repair. He is a Tissue Viability Nurse in his country where he, when time permits, provides education at nursing schools as well as various events and settings and provides consulting to other nurses and GP’s.
He works for 3M in a role as scientific affairs manager since 2007 with increasing responsibility and is since 2022 assigned as Global Scientific Affairs Manager. Bart brings with him plenty experience regarding the background of 3M technologies and how they can solve problems in the area of wound and skin care.
In the course of time Bart, published or co - authored various publications on behalf of 3M regarding wound and skin care
In his free time Bart is a consultant tissue viability nurse at a private vascular and lymphoedema clinic in Belgium in the Antwerp region.
